On February 9, 2023, the 113th GILC Summit successfully took place. The beginning of this year surely brought changes and innovations in dozens of sectors; such changes can affect numerous industries in various countries, which is why today we will highlight some of the insightful news that was shared during the 113th GILC Summit.

What is happening in the US?

According to Eveline Gerck, CEO at AP International, New York is currently having substantial growth in the startup ecosystem, even though the US as a whole continue to face inflation. Inflation is predicted to get under control in the near future. Right now, the new program for infrastructure and technology is starting to take off, which will lead to a very strong and prosperous year for the US, with loads of investment opportunities, especially in the energy and tech industries.

What is happening in Canada? 

As stated by Mira Sirotic, Investor & Director of Investor Relations at Maxwell Biosciences, Canada continues to face issues with inflation, but labor shortages are starting to crop up, which could potentially push wages up as the economy seems to be ramping up. Canada also continues to attract a lot of people from other countries; immigration is a fairly common topic for Canada because of the labor shortages and the need to have additional high-quality workers coming into the market.

What is happening in the UK and Europe?

As claimed by Meenal Sambre, Director at Samaria Global Finance Limited, there are a lot of inflows coming from real estate, possibly because of an issue with inflation and interest rates throughout the world. He also mentioned how the UK NHS is not in a very good shape at the moment, but that might change in the near future as there are a lot of tech developments coming in into life sciences, biosciences and loads of public-private partnerships happening. Additionally, Marta Albert, Principal at QG Family Office, said that there is a lot of investment being made in the DC sector among family offices. Marta also mentioned how the political situation in Spain has been quite distressing, although folks there are now more open to investing in other countries and projects outside Spain.

What is happening in Switzerland? 

Igor Perepelychnyi, CEO of Setcoin Group, said that Switzerland, especially Zurich, continues to transition to ESG and green investments. Therefore, there are a lot of opportunities to invest in the area. Tech is also a sector that has been growing a lot in the country, with lots of research and development sites focused on the industry. He noted that Switzerland needs more and more brand new companies, hence why most of the government’s current focus is on venture capital investments to bring new companies to the market.

What is happening in India?

As noted by Vikash Gupta, Co-founder at WhaleTank, the startup ecosystem is booming like nothing before, with very high-quality startups and innovations that are taking place not only in health tech or deep tech but all across the board, for example in fintech, deep tech and many other sectors. In addition to that, Ganapathie Iyer, CEO at Bharathvarsha Ventures, mentioned that India is seeing a lot of investment opportunities in the financial markets as well as for alternative investments.

What is happening in Israel?

In accordance with what an investor from Israel said, the technology industry of the country is expanding like never before, thanks to the explosion of tech startups. Besides that, he noted how the real estate side of the country will likely see some growth during 2023.
